Moondata Records is a new label founded on a spirit of
open-mindedness and collaboration in the creation of music and art. This
first official release, Satellite: LABprojects 2003-2005 is a
selection of songs chosen from two years of Moondata Productions’
LABproject series - an event which invites musicians, visual
artists and DJs to co-operate in special one-time, improvised performances
that cross traditional musical boundaries.
With 14 songs spanning 70 minutes, the album flows along numerous musical
streams. The three drummer bhangra rhythms of “Ektara”
could fit in at a dance party as much as at a free jazz blow-out, while
“I Pretend its Love” is an inspired smash hit. From the
ambient folk imagery of “Empty Tin Can in the Old Man’s
House”, to “Diskbreaker”, an excursion
into dark dub, this CD is a unique look into the collective musical consciousness
of fourty-six musicians.
Satellite: LABprojects 2003-2005 features an eclectic mix of
musicians that make up the vibrant Montreal scene. A brilliant display
of the power of focused improvisation, Satellite is a cohesive work that
is a strong example of true and inspired collaboration.
